Hand embroidery and various threads on Irish linen | One-off work |

Fraoch (Irish for heather) reflects resilience and the quiet persistence of growth in difficult conditions.

Heather is often found across bogland and rocky, uncultivated ground in Ireland, growing where little else seems able to take hold. It appears in places that feel overlooked or left behind, yet it thrives there, bringing colour and life to these landscapes.

This work focuses on a single sprig of heather emerging from a rock. Like many wild plants, it finds a way to survive in unlikely places, adapting to its surroundings and persevering despite limitations.

There is a personal resonance in this. The act of making, particularly alongside the demands of everyday life, can sometimes feel similarly constrained, finding small pockets of time and space to persist, to continue, and to create something meaningful, in the hope that it grows into something meaningful.

The work combines ink and hand embroidery on Irish linen, using a mixture of silk and various other threads. Some are naturally dyed, while others are vintage threads sourced from charity shops, bringing together materials with their own histories.

This is a unique work. There are no reproductions, no editions, made by hand.
