Hand embroidery on linen fabric | One-off work | 19 cm by 28 cm

Bolcán, the Irish word for volcano, is a meditation on quiet intensity and geological memory.

This piece was created in 2025 as part of my ongoing exploration into natural forms and material landscapes, using hand embroidery as a way to connect with and interpret the world around me. Stitched over the course of seven hours, this small work holds the energy of volcanic terrain through layered, intuitive marks.

I’ve used heritage linen, found threads, and a mix of naturally dyed and antique fibres to build a surface alive with texture, colour, and a deep connection to place.

My practice is rooted in material exploration and environmental attentiveness. I’m drawn to organic elements like rocks, waterways, and plant life, and work slowly to respond to them through stitch. Bolcán 2025 invites the viewer into an intimate space, where memory, nature, and making are quietly woven together.

This is a unique work. There are no reproductions, no editions, only this one piece, made by hand.
