Carraigín, 2026

£145.00 / Sold Out

Hand embroidery and various threads on Irish linen | One-off work |

Carraigín (Irish for carrageen seaweed) reflects the long relationship between people, the sea, and the quiet remedies found in nature.

Carrageen moss grows along the rocky Irish shoreline and has long been gathered for its nourishing and medicinal qualities.

This work grew from a recent memory of being unwell with a heavy cold and a friend in Culdaff preparing a simple tonic from carrageen moss to help soothe it. The moment also recalled an older family remedy: my late grandmother from Tipperary making ginger wine as a cure for winter colds. These gestures carry a shared understanding that the natural world offers small forms of care if we learn to notice and respect them.

Carraigín reflects this quiet exchange between people and place, a kind of symbiotic relationship built on attentiveness, patience, and the knowledge passed between generations.

The embroidery is worked using a mixture of wool and various other threads. Some are naturally dyed, while others are vintage threads sourced from charity shops, bringing together materials with their own histories.

This is a unique work. There are no reproductions, no editions, made by hand.
Made in Ireland.

Carraigín will arrive unframed on a mounting board, ready for framing.
