Cloch 2025
£300.00
Print and hand embroidery on Irish linen | One-off work | 22 cm by 30 cm
Cloch is the Irish word for stone, a word that often suggests permanence, something fixed or unchanging. But this piece is a quiet meditation on the opposite, how even the most solid forms are always in flux.
This work was inspired by a stone I picked up along the shore of Strangford Lough. Seaweed had anchored itself to it, transforming it into a home. That idea stayed with me, how stones, shaped by people, water, time and weather, are constantly gathering and shedding the world around them.
I’ve used a combination of hand embroidery and printmaking to explore these ideas. The marks are made slowly and intuitively on Irish linen, using both antique threads and ones I dyed with natural pigments. Also depicted are a small vessel holding a quiet eruption, a stone with growing roots, and a cross-section of a stone.
Things aren’t always as they seem. Stones hold more than we often allow them to reveal: fragments of time, memory, place, and possibility.
This is a unique work. There are no reproductions, no editions, only this one piece, made by hand.
