Feochadán 2025

£135.00

Ink print with hand embroidery on Irish linen | One-off work | 25 cm × 19 cm

Feochadán is the Irish word for thistle. This piece shares a visual language with earlier works exploring roots and underground forms, yet it has grown into something wilder, part root, part seedhead, part wildflower. The image suggests a thistle emerging, its form both delicate and defiant.

Often dismissed as weeds or nuisances, thistles thrive in places overlooked or abandoned. They take hold where little else will grow, transforming disturbed ground into spaces full of colour, texture and life. This work reflects on perception, how something considered unwanted can also be resilient, vital and quietly extraordinary.

Printed and stitched onto Irish linen, the embroidery builds slowly over the inked form, echoing the way wild plants push through soil, stone and cracks in the landscape. Made entirely by hand, Feochadán is a one-of-a-kind work.

This is a unique work. There are no reproductions, no editions, only this one piece, made by hand.
